Three snakes rescued in Coimbatore

Three snakes, a common cobra (Naja naja) and two rat snakes, were rescued from two houses in Coimbatore on Wednesday morning.

Following a phone call late on Tuesday night, Nature Conservation Society (NCS) President N.I. Jalaludeen visited the house of Rahmathullah at Pon Vizha Nagar in Ukkadam along with a professional and trained snake handler/charmer Ameen.

Since it was well late into the night, the effort was kept in abeyance to be resumed on Wednesday. The inmates of the house locked the door and stayed in the house of a friend.

On Wednesday morning, two rat snakes were rescued. From the house of Baladandayutham at Kuniamuthur, a common cobra was rescued. On instructions from the District Forest Officer, the NCS volunteers released the snakes into the wild near Madukkarai.

Mr. Jalaludeen said in the wake of the recent rain, snakes have come out into human habitations. This is the third incident of snakes in human habitations in the last 16 days of this month.
Citing various instances of snake’s presence, Mr. Jalaludeen appealed to the people who come across snakes that they should desist from beating them to death.

Instead, they could just call up NCS at 94896-02878 for help. With the help of snake handlers, these snakes could be rescued and released into the wild, he said.
